" Hinduism says that, Lord Shiva, the destroyer of evil and sorrow, resides at the summit of the legendary mountain Kailash , where he sits in a state of perpetual meditation along with his consort goddess Parvati. According to Vishnu Purana the mountains four faces are made of crystal, ruby, gold, and lapis lazuli. It is a pillar of the world and is located at the heart of six mountain ranges symbolizing a lotus. The four rivers flowing from Kailash thereon flow to the four quarters of the world and divide the world into four regions. "

"According to Buddhism, 1 circumambulation around the mountain can atone for all the sins committed throughout ones current lifetime. Completing 10 circles around the mountain leads to prevention of eternal damnation of hell tribulation in ones reincarnations of 500 years. 108 revolutions remove the sins of all lifetimes and brings salvation from reincarnation (moksha). Alternatively, pilgrims who complete one circle of the Kailash and bathe in the frigid waters of Lake Manasarovar will also attain salvation."
