At the top of the pass, the air seems to glitter against the snow as you look down over herringboned ridges into the Lahaul valley.
        • Vehicles with Non Himachal Pradesh registration are not allowed beyond Marhi. We will take you up to Marhi. From Marhi, you will have to hire a taxi and Visitors are requested to Pay directly for taxi hire and permit to visit Rohtang Pass. The permit is subject to availability. Currently, vehicles are allowed only till Gulaba (Snow Point). Only limited vehicles are allowed per day.
        • Remains closed on Tuesdays for weekly maintenance.
        • Rohtang Pass remains closed during monsoon months July and August because of landslides.

    • Nek Chand was a Road Inspector in the Engineering Department of the Chandigarh Capital Project. He roamed the Shivalik foothills and picked up stones resembling a bird, animal, human and abstract forms. He brought them on his bicycle. The first seven years (1958-65) were spent collecting natural material, urban and industrial waste. Gradually his collection mounted to a staggering twenty thousand-rock form of amazing beauty. These were deposited around a hut that he had built for his work and contemplation. He built the Rock Garden from this improvised hut, which was located by the side of a stream. The Rock Garden was inaugurated in 1976.

Himachal sees a good amount of snowfall in the months of December, January and February in many towns of Himachal. The toy train runs on Shimla- Kalka covering the distance of 96 km in 5-6 hours. The beautiful journey crosses the mountains covered in pine and deodar and has 103 tunnels on its route.

  • Shimla can be reached by air, rail and by road. Jubbarhatti Airport is 25 km away. Daily flights ply between Delhi and Shimla.
  • Kalka is 96 km from Shimla and is the nearest railhead connected to the hill station. It takes close to six hours by train to reach Shimla from Kalka.
  • Tourists can also travel to Shimla by road. The drive is scenic and the National Highway from Delhi to Shimla is well maintained.
  • Manali is easily accessible from Delhi, Shimla, Chandigarh, and Ambala. To reach Manali, tourists can also take flights that connect many cities to the nearest airport located at Bhunter, which is 50 km away from Manali.
